Compher’s Two Goals in the Final Meeting
In a previous post, I observed that Tyson Jost loves scoring on the Minnesota Wild. A full quarter of his goals — three in all — have come against Minny.
Well, his best buddy, JT Compher, seems to love scoring against the Wild almost as much as Tyson does. He also has three goals against this hated team.
We already saw his short-handed tally in the two teams’ first meeting of the season. Well, in their final meeting of the season, he scored two more.
The first comes late in the first period in the March 13, 2018 game. Racing into the zone, he draws a penalty. However, the Colorado Avalanche never get a power play because he works his way past three Wild defenders to beat Dubnyk short side:

The goal put the Avs up 1-0. Hopefully the Minnesota Wild were starting to get worried. In the last two games, Colorado had beaten them 7-1 and 7-2. Then they open scoring in Minnesota. Yeah, hopefully the Wild were having nervous flashbacks.
Compher also scored the penultimate goal of the series. (Jost got the final goal, and I think that’s rather fitting.)
The goal comes later in the third period with Colorado on the power play thanks to the Wild’s frustration — in this case, Marcus Foligno charging Matt Nieto with the Avs already up 3-1.
The power play goal by Compher is an impressive example of athleticism and compete level. He’s on his knees after being knocked down. Yet, when the puck comes his way, he manages to settle it and roof a shot — still from his knees:
JT Compher has some hands, as we’ve seen this season. This was a beautiful way to end his goal scoring against the Minnesota Wild.
The Colorado Avalanche will face their Central Division rivals, the Minnesota Wild, four times during the 2018-19 season:
- Oct. 4, 2018 in Colorado
- Oct. 27, 2018 in Minnesota
- Jan. 23. 2019 in Colorado
- March 19, 2019 in Minnesota
In fact, that first game is the season opener for the Avs. So, here’s to hoping they can keep renting space in the Wild players’ heads and score some more beautiful goals — en route to more wins — during those games.
