The Colorado Avalanche social media team and Avs fandom focused on captain Gabriel Landeskog — and with good reason.

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is just so easy to tweet about. He’s handsome, charismatic and funny. A ham at heart, he also never shies away from the spotlight.

I’m sure those are some of the reasons the Colorado Avalanche PR team, as well as fans, incorporate a lot of Landy into their social media. Our captain definitely doesn’t lack in the personality department. No shrinking violet is Gabe.

Here’s Avs PR, creeping on the captain:

Here’s an example of Landeskog taking over hosting duties from Tyson Barrie:

And, you know, in case you weren’t watching him already:

Pretty sure that’s a stick foul.

Partway through the season, Landeskog’s new best buddy, Mikko Rantanen, made a Snapchat emoji of the captain. The PR team immediately dubbed it Landy-moji:

Landy-moji even went on its own adventures.

What’s funny is that the actual Landy probably wouldn’t hesitate to go on any of those adventures himself — including that dance at the beginning.

Let’s be honest — Landeskog could have been a Swedish model if not for hockey:

I’m going to be running a post about the Colorado Avalanche players mad suit game throughout the season. Needless to say, Gabriel Landeskog is one of the best dressed.

One time, though, our captain got upstaged:

Sorry, Landy, when you got it, you got it — even as a tot. (That is one rocking kid.)

One of the things I’ve always admired about Gabe Landeskog is his commitment to the Friends initiative:

His commitment to outreach goes beyond the Friends initiative. He represented the Avs at the UCHealth Healthy Swings Charity Home Run Derby:

Tyson Jost was less than impressed by Gabe’s attempts at baseball:

Our captain came back with a jellyfish sting of a reply:

Ouch!

That said, something I’ve always felt is a captain’s responsibility is to be an ambassador of the team’s to the fanbase and community. Gabriel Landeskog has always exemplified that quality:

I can also tell you from experience that the captain always flips pucks to young fans — he nearly took my ear off with a puck once, trying to get it to the youngster in front of me. But it’s all good! Here are some less dangerous examples:

Now, we all know all the diplomacy in the world doesn’t mean much in hockey if you can’t back it up with some skills. Gabriel Landeskog is never going to be the highest points producer on the Colorado Avalanche. Bue he’s no passenger.

Landeskog recorded two hat tricks this season. They also just happened to be his first-ever and second-ever in the NHL:

Here’s the first:

And the second:

And the aftermath:

Gabe, in typical hockey fashion, didn’t focus on the hat tricks themselves. Instead, he yukked it up about his Movermber porn ‘stache.

If Landy can’t wear the ‘stache, it’s unwearable.

Our captain is also known for his passion. And, unfortunately, that passion occasionally leads him to cross the line — he’s what Cabby Presents would call a habitual line stepper.

There was also that time Landeskog suggested Minnesota Wild skater Nate Prosser should “go back on waivers:”

Our cap hates the Wild, and we love him all the more for that hate.

Landeskog also loves. This summer he married his longtime girlfriend/fiancee. The couple didn’t choose to share much on social media, so I won’t go too in-depth, but here’s a single, beautiful image:

I think we all wish our captain the best in his new marriage.

Ultimately, I’ve always appreciated Gabriel Landeskog as the Colorado Avalanche captain. I know Joe Sakic will always be the classic. But our young cap — he’s the new age of captaincy. Young, vibrant, and the face of the team. So easy to capture on social media.

So I leave you with one last, awesome tweet:

We do, indeed, salute captain Gabriel Landeskog as we wait for the next season. Here’s to hoping our young ambassador leaves it all out on the ice — as he did last season — and has a career year en route to a very successful Colorado Avalanche season.
