The Colorado Avalanche social media team and Avs fandom focused on captain Gabriel Landeskog — and with good reason.
Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is just so easy to tweet about. He’s handsome, charismatic and funny. A ham at heart, he also never shies away from the spotlight.
I’m sure those are some of the reasons the Colorado Avalanche PR team, as well as fans, incorporate a lot of Landy into their social media. Our captain definitely doesn’t lack in the personality department. No shrinking violet is Gabe.
Here’s Avs PR, creeping on the captain:
Don’t mind us... 👀🤣#OhSnap #GoAvsGo https://t.co/jOwHKmVVSY
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) July 6, 2018
Here’s an example of Landeskog taking over hosting duties from Tyson Barrie:
Gabe is positive he is a better host than Tyson.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) October 3, 2017
(We might agree 👀) #GoAvsGo https://t.co/ZCizZMCJ1o
Gabe definitely takes pride in his hosting ability.#GoAvsGo https://t.co/kyF7vRrO0c
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
And, you know, in case you weren’t watching him already:
Dramatic Landy lost the shootout.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) December 17, 2017
😂😂😂 #GoAvsGo https://t.co/RwYZ3SREMB
Pretty sure that’s a stick foul.
Partway through the season, Landeskog’s new best buddy, Mikko Rantanen, made a Snapchat emoji of the captain. The PR team immediately dubbed it Landy-moji:
The Landy-moji gets Gabe’s approval!#GoAvsGo https://t.co/1ytFEiR2Z7
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) November 23, 2017
Landy-moji even went on its own adventures.
May we present: The Adventures of Landy-moji!#GoAvsGo https://t.co/rgiRHFnEJQ
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
What’s funny is that the actual Landy probably wouldn’t hesitate to go on any of those adventures himself — including that dance at the beginning.
Let’s be honest — Landeskog could have been a Swedish model if not for hockey:
The coolest Captain in the league.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
(Yes, we’re biased, but this is just a fact.) #GoAvsGo https://t.co/gtRDKoFgpc
I’m going to be running a post about the Colorado Avalanche players mad suit game throughout the season. Needless to say, Gabriel Landeskog is one of the best dressed.
One time, though, our captain got upstaged:
The coolest guy in the room.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) March 11, 2018
And Gabe. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/eDq3eaLUgg
Sorry, Landy, when you got it, you got it — even as a tot. (That is one rocking kid.)
One of the things I’ve always admired about Gabe Landeskog is his commitment to the Friends initiative:
Gabe was a Friends Ambassador while growing up in Sweden.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) January 15, 2018
He has continued his involvement with the organization to promote treating each other with kindness and respect. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/4liRCYxArh
Gabe invites groups, called Landy’s Friends, to games throughout the season.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/nJw3WZe4gl
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
His commitment to outreach goes beyond the Friends initiative. He represented the Avs at the UCHealth Healthy Swings Charity Home Run Derby:
this is Gabriel Landeskog. this is probably what he looked like after his bachelor party that he live streamed leading up to. any man with an instagram for his dog is a man i love. 20/10 BDE pic.twitter.com/tfey8usEOj
— NHLers BDE (@NHLersBDE) July 3, 2018
Tyson Jost was less than impressed by Gabe’s attempts at baseball:
Our captain came back with a jellyfish sting of a reply:
Now you know what it feels like watching you trying to play defense
— Gabriel Landeskog (@GabeLandeskog92) May 11, 2018
Ouch!
That said, something I’ve always felt is a captain’s responsibility is to be an ambassador of the team’s to the fanbase and community. Gabriel Landeskog has always exemplified that quality:
It’s so awesome to have a guy like Gabe represent the Avalanche.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
You always impress us, Captain. #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/yDQjuBa3qD
Been through a lot in the last 5 or so years. Watching @Avalanche Hockey has been one of my therapies! Even wrote a letter to @GabeLandeskog92 and the Avs about how inspirational and helpful watching them going to games has been. Saw Landy tonight and he mentioned my letter. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/3sYYs3hye1

I can also tell you from experience that the captain always flips pucks to young fans — he nearly took my ear off with a puck once, trying to get it to the youngster in front of me. But it’s all good! Here are some less dangerous examples:
Thank you @GabeLandeskog92 for my girls first NHL game and her favourite team @Avalanche for flipping her a puck! Moment she will never forget pic.twitter.com/J7SZ1ZhjHK

Gabe is incredible with our fans.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/0tC4DNwqOX

Now, we all know all the diplomacy in the world doesn’t mean much in hockey if you can’t back it up with some skills. Gabriel Landeskog is never going to be the highest points producer on the Colorado Avalanche. Bue he’s no passenger.
Landeskog recorded two hat tricks this season. They also just happened to be his first-ever and second-ever in the NHL:
Landy is our first player to tally two hat tricks in one season since Hejduk in 2006-07.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/TVucQw3rFT
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
Here’s the first:
Landy recorded his first career hat trick on November, 16th 2017…#GoAvsGo https://t.co/Z2J8v8USGx
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
And the second:
… and Landy recorded his second career hat trick on December 16th, 2017.#GoAvsGo https://t.co/69huR2jR2x
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
And the aftermath:
A taste of his own medicine.
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) November 17, 2017
But so, so sweet! #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/wxF8b7xTpQ
Gabe, in typical hockey fashion, didn’t focus on the hat tricks themselves. Instead, he yukked it up about his Movermber porn ‘stache.
“Can you see the ‘stache with the flash on?”
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) November 17, 2017
*looks at photo*
“Siiiiick!”#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/YVT7BS4jy6
If Landy can’t wear the ‘stache, it’s unwearable.
Our captain is also known for his passion. And, unfortunately, that passion occasionally leads him to cross the line — he’s what Cabby Presents would call a habitual line stepper.
Landy is always willing to stick up for his squad.#GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/nXw9kBMsii
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
There was also that time Landeskog suggested Minnesota Wild skater Nate Prosser should “go back on waivers:”
Our cap hates the Wild, and we love him all the more for that hate.
Landeskog also loves. This summer he married his longtime girlfriend/fiancee. The couple didn’t choose to share much on social media, so I won’t go too in-depth, but here’s a single, beautiful image:
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs @GabeLandeskog92

I think we all wish our captain the best in his new marriage.

Ultimately, I’ve always appreciated Gabriel Landeskog as the Colorado Avalanche captain. I know Joe Sakic will always be the classic. But our young cap — he’s the new age of captaincy. Young, vibrant, and the face of the team. So easy to capture on social media.
So I leave you with one last, awesome tweet:
We salute you, Captain.#IsItOctoberYet!? #GoAvsGo pic.twitter.com/lM1ZowtaeA
— Colorado Avalanche (@Avalanche) May 26, 2018
We do, indeed, salute captain Gabriel Landeskog as we wait for the next season. Here’s to hoping our young ambassador leaves it all out on the ice — as he did last season — and has a career year en route to a very successful Colorado Avalanche season.
