Colorado Avalanche rookies Tyson Jost and J.T. Compher, along with Alexander Kerfoot, developed quite a friendship last season.

The Colorado Avalanche players talked a lot about how great their chemistry was this year. They all mentioned how much fun it was to come to the rink and spend time with their teammates.

The Avalanche have had a lot of storied friendships come through the team. You can go back to a few years ago when Matt Duchene and Paul Stastny became best buddies. You can even go all the way back to the 1990s when Rene Corbet, Stephane Yelle, and Eric Lacroix shared a penthouse apartment that overlooked the Pepsi Center.

And, of course, we all know about best friends Nathan MacKinnon and Tyson Barrie:

The Colorado Avalanche twitter created a hashtag for the Barrie-MacKinnin bromance, #BestFriends. Well, the rookies developed an affinity for each other, and the Avs tagged it #BestMates.

The two besties are mainly J.T. Compher and Tyson Jost. However, they share a Cherry Creek flat with Alexander Kerfoot, who got in on the #BestMates love.

Here’s the trio posing with the Avalanche’s stick kid:

However, Jost and Compher seemed to hang out more. Indeed, I felt like Compher took on the role of big brother even though he was a fellow rookie — he’s a couple years older and just naturally more serious.

Here’s an example of Compher treating Jost like a kid brother:

And another of Compher rough-housing Jost:

As well as… whatever this is:

And this yukking it up on the ice:

In fact, at one of the practices I attended, Compher was rough-housing Jost. A minute later, Gabriel Landeskog skated up and bumped chests with Jost. (He does that a lot to toughen players up.) Compher stepped in, like he needed to protect Tyson from the captain! (Of course, he needed protection from Gabe on Twitter…)

Living together means the duo — and occasionally trio — could car pool to practices and, especially, games together. In fact, BSN Avalanche’s AJ Haefele once tweeted a cute story about Compher and Kerfoot trying to figure out who was taking Jost home after practice.

Here they are arriving for game day together:

Props to their suit game — Tyson Jost’s is especially impressive, especially when you consider he’s color blind.

Speaking of:

What resulted was one of the best videos the Colorado Avalanche ever produced:

The whole video is phenomenal. However, the interplay of the two is so funny. Especially since 10 seconds after putting the color correcting glasses on, Jost is making fun of Compher’s hair color!

Jost and Compher also hosted one of the Colorado Avalanche’s Break the Ice cilinics:

Here’s a little more of Kerfoot getting into the friendship:

At one point, the trio were even on a line together. There was an idea that they would develop some “roomie chem,” as Jost put it, since they were roommates. It didn’t quite work out that way, but it was fun to watch the future of the Colorado Avalanche on a line together:

Of course, as with any friendship, there are rough patches as well. They even went on injured reserve at the same time. (Naturally, that wasn’t planned.)

They healed together, too:

Here’s a final one of Tyson Jost and JT Compher together:

In the end, it really is fun to watch players who enjoy working together. That chemistry was something that helped translate to the whole team. What’s more, you know from hearing some of the old timers talk, that those friendships last a lifetime.

The Colorado Avalanche players have scattered. Jost participated in IIHF Worlds. He had mentioned in a post-Game 6 interview that he’d be returning to Canada to train for the summer. Compher likely returned to Chicago, where he’s from.

However, the MacK and Barrie bromance is still a thing. I’m sure the Comphy-Josty one will be, too, next year.
