MONTREAL CANADIENS:

Low Price – Jordie Benn – D

Jordie Benn is a solid 3rd pairing defenseman who can eat up quality minutes. He won’t offer much in the way of offense, but he’s a good stay-at-home defenseman. Benn has another year after this one on his contract, but it’s only at a 1.1 million dollar cap hit. That’s easy enough for Sakic and company to take on if they choose.

High PriceAlex Galchenyuk – LW

I don’t get it. I don’t understand why the Habs can’t figure out what to do with this guy or even where to put him. He’s got loads of offensive talent (mostly stick-handling and shot) and still has more in his game that can be discovered. Montreal has not had the season they’ve wanted and have been talking about trading “Chucky” for a while now. Galchenyuk signed a 3 year deal worth just under 5 million this past offseason, so you need to be sure he’s part of the long term success of this club.

Note:

I didn’t include Max Pacioretty simply because I believe he would be too expensive for the Avalanche. Side note though, wherever he goes, he is going to light it up. If Montreal deals him, they will definitely be sorry. Buddy is a lock for 30 goals a season.
