In the 2015 NHL Draft the Colorado Avalanche have six draft picks in the seven rounds, having traded away their fifth round pick to Montreal with P.A. Parenteau in exchange for Daniel Briere.

Here at Mile High Sticking we have completed two complete first round mock drafts:

Beichler’s Full 1st Round Mock Draft
Archuleta’s Full 1st Round Mock Draft

We also participated in the site-wide first round of draft picks.

Now, we feel it’s time to go the full seven rounds for the Colorado Avalanche. As a twist, fellow co-editors Nadia Archuleta and Janik Beichler give their preferences for each round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Round 1

Avalanche GM Joe Sakic stated the team was going to select the best player available in the first round and pick for need after that. I’ll base my selections on who I’d like to see the Avalanche be able to pick first and who I think Sakic and Patrick Roy, et al, will choose in the later rounds.

Nadia’s selection:

103. Pavel Zacha is a big power forward who’s aggressive around the net. I keep saying I appreciate his shoot first, ask questions later mentality, which would be a breath of fresh air for the Avalanche. <a href=. Center/Left Wing. Sarnia Sting, OHL. Pavel Zacha. 10. player

Janik’s selection:

player. 103. Lawson Crouse is the tenth selection in my full mock draft, therefore I will also use it here. If Crouse drops that far, the Avalanche are extremely lucky and will get the definition of a power forward. <a href=. Left Wing. Kingston Frontenacs, OHL. Lawson Crouse. 10

Nadia’s selection:

40. player. 103. The Avalanche need a big, mean defenseman, and that’s Nicolas Meloche. He’s strong on the puck and not afraid to do the dirty work of hockey, such as park himself in front of his own net. <a href=. Defenseman. Baie-Comeau Drakkar, QMJHL. Nicolas Meloche

Janik’s selection:

Center. Omaha, USHL. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson. 40. player. 103. Jakob Forsback-Karlsson not only has the potential to earn NHL Best Name honors, but could also become a very valuable player in the league. Due to his very mature two-way style, JFK is considered a rather “safe” pick, as far as you can say that about teenagers. There may be other players with higher potential, but those players seem to be “riskier” picks. <a href=

Nadia’s selection:

Goalie. Barrie Colts, OHL. Mackenzie Blackwood. 71. player. 103. Blackwood is a solid butterfly goalie with a cool head. He’d be a boon for the Avalanche to have at goalie depth.

Janik’s selection:

Conor Garland. 71. player. 103. Conor Garland may be considered a reach here. However, if you really want a player, you have to reach for him sometimes — he may be gone by the time you’re on the clock again. Garland was tied for the CHL scoring lead with no other than top 5 pick Dylan Strome. The only concern is his size, but several players have proven that size isn’t everything. <a href=. Right wing. Moncton Wildcats, QMJHL

Nadia’s selection:

103. Greer is a big, strong forward with great skating skills. Hopefully he’s still available fourth round. <a href=. Left Wing. Boston University, NCAA. Anthony-John Greer. 101. player

Janik’s selection:

101. player. 103. Joe Sakic wants to focus on need with the 2nd round pick and after. The Avs need defense badly, but that is an immediate need. They are stacked with D-men in the prospect pool. That’s why it took until now to select the first D-man. Ethan Bear doesn’t have ideal size, but plays bigger than he is. Aggressive and gritty D-man that excels on the PK and also has some offensive skill.. Defenseman. Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL. Ethan Bear

Nadia’s selection:

Tate Olson. 161. player. 103. Tate Olson is a decent-sized defenseman. He doesn’t put up a lot of points, but he’s not afraid to get physical.. Defenseman. Prince George Cougars, WHL

Janik’s selection:

player. 103. Vladislav Gavrikov is <a href=. Defenseman. Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL. Vladislav Gavrikov. 161

Nadia’s selection:

Luka Zorko is another big defenseman out of Slovenia. With their last pick, the Colorado Avalanche can afford to take a chance on a relative unknown.. Defenseman. . Luka Zorko. 191. player. 103

Janik’s selection:

Center. . Fabio Pfohl. 191. player. 103. Fabio Pfohl is eligible for a second time after being passed over last year. He is widely unknown, but a talented center who played for Team Germany at the World Juniors. <a href=
