David Henley, Defenseman

Age: 18 (3-13-1997)

Shoots: Left

Height: 6’4″

Weight: 203 pounds

Current Team: Charlottetown Islanders (QMJHL)

Let’s get this out of the way first — defenseman David Henley has some questionable taste in music. According to his NHL.com draft profile, his favorite “musician” is Justin Bieber. We’ll let that slide because obviously he’ll learn better.

That said, Henley’s game also needs a bit of refinement. Like Strand, he aims to be tough to play against. Henley likes to play a physical game.

In fact, David Henley already has ties to the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche acquired David’s brother Samuel as a free agent. Samuel spent all last season playing for the Lake Erie Monsters. David also has another brother who was once picked by the Buffalo Sabres.

David Henley learned a lot from his brothers — especially about getting physical:

"“My brothers have big bodies too. We try to play 1-on-1 battles very hard, let people know that we’re very hard to play against. We try to work on that and just play our game. I’m the little one of the family so they and my brothers push me hard.”"

Considering Henley is an imposing 6-foot-4, 203 pounds, “little” might not be quite the right word. In any case, Henley is currently ranked at 95 for North American skaters, so he could potentially be available for the Avalanche’s #101 pick.
