Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby are back working at Tim Hortons.

Colorado Avalanche fans of course remember last summer when Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon took over a local drive-thru Tim Hortons in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia; well, the two of them are back at it, but this time their hitting the road with their antics.

First, the pair of them had to load the truck up. Sidney Crosby probably won’t ever be a professional driver. But, driving a truck with no review mirror worthy of using, and having to rely on your side mirrors is not easy. I did it for three years as a truck driver for a medical supply unit. Anyway, I digress:

Maybe it’s because Crosby is relying on the direction of MacKinnon. Or perhaps it’s because he’s not using his side mirrors at all. Either way, MacK seems to pay the price with all the heavy-lifting.

After they loaded up the truck, the two of them stumbled upon a street hockey game, which drew them quite the crowd of course:

MacK was throwing some dangles on Sid at the end there: “one of those guys eh, one of those guys”. Anyway, I’m sure it was awesome for those kids to see some of their heroes up close and personal, even if it wasn’t on the ice.

Speaking of heroes, the duo made their final stop at a local fire fighters station. It’s probably the best stop out of the three just because MacK and Sid have some pretty good reactions toward heights:

“Oh shut the front door,” one of my favorite phrases in lieu of the more emphatic expression. Also, what a great bonding moment for the two: a realization that heights can be a limiting factor in their courage.

In all seriousness though it’s nice to see that these players still find time to wind down and have fun, while also contributing to the community.

Now it’s time for both of them to buckle down and prepare to lead their respective teams in the World Cup of Hockey, and eventually during the season.

It’s also a good thing that MacKinnon is spending time with Crosby, no matter what the capacity. It’s just as important to develop character off the ice as it is to develop it on the ice, and Sidney Crosby is a class act.

However, hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot of this from Nathan MacKinnon this season:

That hug between the two at the end is glorious, especially since MacKinnon initiates it, and the ensuing group hug moments later.

MacK is a young leader, and he’ll need to contribute in a huge way for the Colorado Avalanche this coming season. Hopefully these videos over the summer show a couple ways in which MacKinnon is taking steps to develop both his on and off ice character.
