New Colorado Avalanche 3rd Jersey Revealed by Icethetics?

The Colorado Avalanche retired their “blueberry” third jerseys after the 2014-15 season. For the longest time, nobody who isn’t directly involved in the process knew whether there would be new third jerseys coming, or only the ones for the Stadium Series game against Detroit — until today. The jersey website Icethetics.com seems to have revealed the secret.

At the end of July, Icethetics granted a first sneak peak via twitter, before revealing both the Anaheim Ducks’ and Colorado Avalanche’s new third uniforms in a blog post today. Nothing is official yet, but the Avalanche is expected to officially unveil the jerseys later.

The new jersey may come as a little bit of a surprise. Firstly, the primary color is navy blue, which hasn’t been part of the Avalanche’s color scheme before. Secondly, the club will be using a totally new logo, which looks quite a bit like that of the Colorado Rockies. And last but not least, the jersey actually looks awesome.

It can be argued that the Avs should have used their primary logo instead — because let’s be honest, it’s perfect — but alternate jerseys are all about alternate designs. The new logo looks very clean and features the Colorado “C”, which will also be the shoulder patch on the 2015-16 home and away jerseys.

Colorado pride is an important feature in all three of the “new” (only one is an actual new jersey) uniforms. All three have the new Colorado logo, while the new alternate jersey even features the Colorado state flag on one shoulder.

It is always hard to judge a jersey before it has even been worn, or actually seen for that matter, but the Icethetics rendering looks very nice. The piping is gone, the new striping is great and the colors go well together. Nothing wrong with that.

With the previously leaked design being confirmed as the new third jerseys, not the ones for the Stadium Series, we can also be excited for another new design next season. But first, let’s wait for this one to be officially confirmed.
