Last week we asked “Who is the biggest Central Division threat for the Colorado Avalanche?” in our weekly Avalanche poll. The results are in and 43% of you believe that the Chicago Blackhawks could be the team to supplant the current division champions. The Blackhawks have been a model of consistency over the years and are always a favorite to make a deep playoff run. I’m in the majority, believing that Chicago is the biggest threat in the division. The core of their team is back and they added Brad Richards, who could thrive in Chicago behind Jonathan Toews.
Coming in second with 37% was the St. Louis Blues. The Blues made the biggest move of the off-season, adding Paul Stastny from the Avs. St. Louis seemingly had the division wrapped up last season, but stumbled down the stretch and ended up finishing second to the Avs. St. Louis will likely be a heavy favorite to win the division when the season rolls around.
In third, with 11%, were the Minnesota Wild. The Wild knocked off the Avs in the playoffs last year and added Thomas Vanek in the off-season. In a bit of a surprise, the Nashville Predators beat out the Dallas Stars for fourth. The Stars, who made the playoffs last year, added Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky in the off-season and will likely be a darkhorse pick for many this upcoming season. The Predators made a lot of changes in the off-season as well, but perhaps it was too many to take effect right away?
Coming in last were the Winnipeg Jets, who still exist despite a quiet off-season.
