The NHL released the 2014-2015 schedule for the Colorado Avalanche and all other 29 NHL teams earlier today. The Avalanche will open their season on the road, taking on the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Two days later on October 11, the Wild will travel to Colorado for the Avalanche home opener at the Pepsi Center. After a grueling seven-game series in the first round of this past season’s NHL playoffs, a home-and-home meeting against the Wild will only intensify this rivalry.
After their home opener, the Avs will hit the road for a four-game eastern conference road trip, meaning five of the first six games for the Avs will be on the road.
The Colorado Avalanche season will end at home on Saturday, April 11, 2015 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Other schedule notes:
*The Avs have six three-game home stands and one four-game homestand.
*The Avs have two four-game and two five-game road trips.
*The Avs will play in 11 back-to-back games.
*Eight Avalanche games will be part of Hockey Night in Canada.
*The Avs only have three afternoon games.
*The longest break of the season comes at the end of January. The Avs play the Bruins on January 21, 2015 and then don’t play again until they meet the Predators on January 27.
*The Red Wings visit the Pepsi Center for the only time during the season on February 5, 2015.
*The Avs first meeting against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings doesn’t come until February 28, 2015.
