Colorado Avalanche fans won’t have to wait long to see their team, hopefully extract a little bit of revenge against the Minnesota Wild. Today the NHL announced the home opener for every NHL team and the Avalanche will grace the Pepsi Center on Saturday, October 11 against the Wild.
The Minnesota Wild knocked off the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the NHL playoffs this past season, winning game seven at Colorado in overtime. Division rivals ever since the Wild came into the NHL in 2000, things heated up after an intense 2014 playoff meeting. The grueling game seven series took a turn for the worse in game three when Wild forward Matt Cooke knocked Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie out of the playoffs with a knee-on-knee hit. Cooke was suspended for seven games, but the damage was done, as Barrie missed the rest of the playoffs.
Fans certainly haven’t forgotten about the hit and you can bet that Cooke will have to atone for his actions on October 11th.
The full NHL schedule will be released on Sunday at 4 PM EST/2PM MTN.
