As we continue our look at Colorado Avalanche 2013-2014 season highlights, in this edition we’ll look at Patrick Roy‘s immediate impact as a coach.
When the Colorado Avalanche hired Patrick Roy to be their head coach in the offseason, he said, “I’m going to bring the same passion as a coach as I did as a player.” He wasted no time proving that to be true. Following an opening night victory over the Anaheim Ducks, Roy shoved the glass partition at the Ducks bench. Roy felt the Ducks and head coach Bruce Boudreau took liberties at the end of the game, going after rookie Nathan MacKinnon at the end of a 6-1 blowout. Roy said that he would stick up for his players and that, if he expected them to show passion and fire, he would have to set the tone. Many thought that this would lead to a season of outbursts by Roy, but that wasn’t the case. The team got the message in game one and never looked back.
