Semyon Varlamov Named Vezina Trophy Finalist

Semyon Varlamov has been named one of the three finalists for the NHL Vezina Trophy, given to the leagues top goalie during the regular season. Tukka Rask and Ben Bishop are the other two finalists.

Varlamov led the league in wins with 41, breaking Patrick Roy’s single season wins record in a Avalanche uniform. He faced more shots and made more saves than any other goalie in the league, posting a .927 save percentage and a 2.41 goals against average.

Varlamov is the third Avalanche player nominated for an award this year. Earlier this week, Ryan O’Reilly was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Trophy while Nathan MacKinnon has been nominated for the Calder Trophy.

The award will be handed out at the annual NHL Awards Ceremony, which takes place after the Stanley Cup Final.

We here at Mile High Sticking would like to congratulate Varlamov on his nomination.
