BUSY SPORTS WEEKEND IN COLORADO
Apologies for being out of pocket the last few days, folks; Super Bowl mania took over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, the Avalanche absolutely dominated the visiting Buffalo Sabres 7-1. Nathan MacKinnon continued his impressive rookie campaign with three points (1 G, 2 A), and really, the Avalanche fired on all cylinders in this one. Andrew Dill over at Mile High Maniac has a very worthwhile recap.
Tonight the Avalanche begin an Eastern Conference road trip that serves as the last stretch of games before the Olympics. They start the first of four games this week in New Jersey, where they will hopefully have more success than the other Colorado team in town. Colorado (35-14-5, 75 points) has been dynamic on offense of late, scoring 16 goals during this current three-game winning streak. The team is 4-0-1 against the Devils since 2010. New Jersey (23-21-12) will needs to find some scoring to go with their defense (5th in Goals Allowed, 2nd in Penalty Kill) to find success tonight against the Avalanche; the Devils are just 6-10-6 against Western Conference opponents this season.
