1. 6 goals, 3 assists, 9 points — Matt Duchene, C
I’ll admit it, before the season I was not at all a staunch believer in this team’s ability to score goals. Suffice it to say, I was completely wrong. They average over three goals a game and lead their division in goals. The leading scorer on the team, Matt Duchene, is truly making his case for team MVP. Even after just nine games, Dutchy looks like a different player. If it was not apparent before, Duchene has just proved to everybody that he is the future of this team, showing a scorer’s touch and above average hands.
If he can hold up this scoring pace, Duchene will light the lamp 54 times this year with 81 total points. Obviously, it’d be unreal (literally and figuratively) if Dutchy can reach that mark. He is, however, showing that 35- to 40-goal capability that Avs fans were hoping to see from him when he was selected 3rd overall in the 2009 NHL Draft.
