Patrick Roy Fined $10K

In a move that should surpise no one, really, the NHL has fined Patrick Roy $10,000 for his actions in Wednesday night’s 6-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

The fine is a result of a questionable hit by Ducks defenseman Ben Lovejoy on center and #1 overall pick Nathan MacKinnon late in Wednesday night’s blowout.

Roy felt the hit was dirty, dangerous, and knee-on-knee while Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau felt it was a minor play. Roy became enraged and pushed the glass stanchion between the two benches, nearly toppling it over on Boudreau.

“He was like that in the Quebec league, too,” Boudreau said, referring to Roy’s eight-year tenure as a coach in the Quebec major junior league. “He’s not 25 anymore.”

I’ll make the same joke here as I did on Twitter: Roy was fined $10K but the guy who built that stanchion gets off free? BUSH LEAGUE.
