The Avalanche Look to Hunt the Predators in Nashville; Will Be Without Duchene for 3-4 Weeks

Your Colorado Avalanche are in Nashville tonight to take on the Predators of “The Music City.” For the second time this week, Colorado is playing in an extremely important game.  With the race in the West tighter than bark on a tree, the Avalanche need to capitalize on each and every chance that presents itself.  Nashville exposed some weaknesses in the loss to L.A. on Tuesday, but they are eager to regain their composure from that loss, tonight against the Avs.

The Avalanche come into tonight’s game riding the momentum provided by their offense as well as the outstanding play from their net minder.  Semyon Varlamov has silenced his critics in the past 6 games he has played in by posting a 5-1-0 record along with a 0.84 GAA and .970 Save Percentage.  To say that Varlamov has hit his stride is an understatement.  Varly is completely invested in helping Colorado make the playoffs and his on-ice actions are speaking louder than any words at this moment.

The Avalanche are going to need to rely on Varlamov even more now since receiving the news about forward Matt Duchene.  News today confirms the worst for the Avalanche.  Duchene will be out 3-4 weeks with an ankle injury, which will most likely end his regular season campaign.  The Avs hope to get Duchene back for the playoffs, but in order to even get there they will have to do it without him.

Colorado has the depth to make it into the playoffs without Duchene.  With the likes of Landeskog, O’Reilly, McGinn, and Downie, the Avs have their lines covered.  The potency of the Avalanche really shined on Tuesday night versus the Wild.  The crisp passing, unrelenting breakout game and overall physical toughness to stand in front of the net, was really flaunted and hopefully will be around for more games to come.

Tonight is another must-win game for the Avs as the other teams jockeying for position are in action tonight as well.  The Kings take on Columbus, San Jose battles with Dallas and Phoenix gets the dilapidated Wild in another full night of NHL action.  The games that have the potential to be the most competitive tonight are Colorado’s and the Shark/Star game.  Colorado must win in order to stay close in the race and if they do, the Avs will put some distance between them and idle Calgary.  No matter the outcome, tonight’s game should be hard-fought and rather entertaining.
