Once again, the Avs have a bittersweet win at Pepsi Center beating the Wild 7-1 but losing a key player late in the game. Matt Duchene, who is coming off a knee injury that kept him off of the ice for about a month and a half, went down midway through the third period with a right leg injury. Duchene was bringing the puck up-ice when the puck got tied up between his skates. Duchene’s right skate then collided with the toe of a Wild player, tweaking his leg under him. Duchene hit the ice while the entire Pepsi Center crowd held their breath and was then helped off by the Avalanche medical staff and fellow Av Peter Mueller.
After going into the locker room, Duchene was carted into the X-Ray facility to further examine his injury. The good news is that the injury does not seem to be in his knee. The bad news is that Duchene’s right ankle is pretty banged up.
It is unclear how long this injury will keep him out of the lineup and how severe the injury truly is. Stay tuned to Mile High Sticking for all of the latest details.
