Probably the best sport’s sound bite is Jim Mora talking about playoffs. Even though I would agree with Mora about not discussing the playoffs when they are so far away, there is no time like the present for the Avalanche to start their playoff run.
As we look ahead at the remaining 2 months of Colorado’s season, February seems like the month the Avalanche need to focus on to gain ground in the Western Conference. February is going to be like a transition month for the club with 17 off days in the shortest month of the year. The Avalanche are going to need to capitalize on all of those off days because March is going to be one rough test.
The month of March is going to not only come in like a lion, but will also stay and leave like one too for Colorado. With only 15 days off in March, the Avalanche will have more “work” days than off days. This means that the Avs are going to have some very tough back-to-back road games in the month of March. So far this season, the Avs have not faired well when playing consecutive games on the road. This is yet another reason why February is such a pivotal month for the Avs.
So yes Mr. Mora, I do want to talk about playoffs. With the afterglow of the All-Star game in the rearview, Colorado needs to make their push for the playoffs now. They need to take the time that is scheduled off in February to recuperate and gear up physically and mentally for the brutal final month of the regular season. If Colorado can make it through February with obtaining at least 14 points, they will be primed to make a run at the playoffs. Anything under 14 and it will be tough sledding in March for the Avalanche.
