Avs- Stefan Elliot

The 6’1″, 180 lb 20 yr old defenseman has played extremely well in his 4 games for far, making great passes, breaking up odd man rushes and scoring 2 goals & notching an assist. He is now in the Avs record book, as the first rookie to score the game winner in his NHL debut with the Avs.

Elliot had a great junior career playing for the Saskatoon Blades on a line pairing with 2011 draft pick Duncan Siemens. Just last season alone playing for the blades. he put up 81 points, (31 goals and 50 Assists), and was a +62. He is also not huge on taking penalties, as he only had 81 PIM’s in 4 seasons with the Blades.

One thing i noticed during the game against the Blues is that he like to use a well timed wrist shot from the blueline, as opposed to a bomb of a slapshot. No judgement against him doing that  thought, as he does have 2 of his goals doing it his way.

Like i mentioned above, he was a defensive pair with new Avs prospect Duncan Siemens, and once Siemens makes the team, we are sure to see them playing together again, and probably be our best blueline pairing if they can bring the Avs the same magic they had in juniors. Hopefully they both grow as players so that the NHL is easy to adapt to when the time comes.

Elliot is going to be something special for our team for years to come. As long as our great management doesn’t do something stupid and trade him away like they did with Kevin Shattenkirk.

May your Career with the Avs be long and full of great things Stefan.
