Stay Or Leave: The Rest

Many of the non-roster players were pivotal players for the Monsters who made the playoffs this past season.

The Following are the non-roster players who will be RFAs and UFAs during this offseason.

  • Peter Forsberg- UFA. RETIRED.
  • Ryan Stoa – RFA. Stay
  • Justin Mercier- RFA.Stay
  • Shawn Belle- UFA. Stay
  • Tom Fritsche- RFA. Stay
  • Julian Talbot- UFA. Leave
  • Raymond Macia-RFA. Stay
  • Harrison Reed- RFA. Stay
  • Ben Walter- UFA. Stay
  • David Van der Gulik- UFA.Stay
  • Greg Mauldin-UFA. Stay
  • Jason Bacashihua- UFA. Stay
  • John Grahame- UFA.Leave
  • David Liffiton- UFA. Leave

So to do a quick recap on decisions: I elected to resign all of the RFA because the Avalanche have their rights and there is no reason to let any of those players go, their success on the pro club notwithstanding.  I would be surprised if the Avalanche did not resign Shawn Belle especially since they just acquired him at the deadline. As for UFAs Walter, VdG, and Mauldin, Walter showed to be the leader of Lake Erie so even if he is a career AHLer he is valuable for the youngsters there, while Mauldin and VdG showed a good deal of skill for the Avalanche and I would be deeply saddened to not see either guy in the organization next year (I also got my picture with Mauldin when I visited Colorado in January!). I elected to keep Cash while letting Grahame go because I believe this is the year Trevor Cann gets a good deal of AHL season under his belt. Similarly I was able to let Liffiton go due to the fact Barrie and/or Stefan Elliott will likely be on the Lake Erie Monsters next season.
