Oh how it hurts to say but is impossible to ignore, Peter Budaj looked as if he was playing in front of a net the size of a soccer net this season. One of the scarier things for Budaj is he salvaged his season a bit by having a strong April to finish the season. The Avalanche had many to blame for their abysmal season but the goalies were the top of the list. Budaj has always been a fan favorite so many of us pulled for him day in and day out but he just never gave the team a chance to win. The lone high note of the season for Budaj was he recorded his 100th career win, all with the Avalanche, in April, after going winless in 7 straight games.
Stay or Leave? Leave.
This decision was considerably easier than other since it has already been reported by Denver Post columnist Adrian Dater that the Avalanche have elected to not resign Peter Budaj, who is a UFA going into this offseason. It is hard to say this decision shocked anyone in the Avalanche circle especially after the addition of Brian Elliott who is a RFA going into the offseason. Budaj will be missed by many but this is what the Avalanche need. Hopefully Budaj catches on somewhere as a backup but I can easily see him disappearing into oblivion like David Aebischer did a few years ago.
