Last Contract: 2 yr 1.2 million

2010-2011 Stats: Gp 18 G 1 Ast 7 Pts 8

For the past two seasons I have looked forward to seeing Kyle Cumiskey finally break through and show teams what he was capable of doing as an offensive defenseman. Last season he showed some flash but I was hoping this season would be the big breakout year. Unfortunately for Kyle injuries struck and put a dagger in any chance of him showing off his potential in the 2010-2011 campaign. We have been witnesses to Kyle’s flashes of brilliance with his ability to move around defenders with the puck but if he is often off the ice this ability is lost. Kyle still possesses a lot of potential which is why many Avs fans were frustrated by his being injured around the trade deadline when they felt if he were healthy he and not young Kevin Shattenkirk would’ve been included in the deal for Erik Johnson.

Stay or Leave? Leave.

I’m putting Kyle Cumiskey in a similar spot as I did with Matt Hunwick in his Stay or Leave post. Cumiskey is another left shooting offensive defenseman which the Avalanche have a pletera of and probably only need two, Liles and Quincey. I look for Kyle Cumiskey to be moved sometime before the end of the season either through a sign and trade or the Avalanche trading his rights since he is a RFA. n my opinion Cumiskey is now lost in the Avalanche depth of defensemen and he will be better served on another team where hopefully he can finally find his break through.
