Not since Ian Laperriere have the Avs had a player whose play can get the whole team to step up their game. Early this season Chris “Fire Starter” Stewart has taken that role and from the looks of it muscled his way into. Last game against the San Jose guppies and earlier against the Calgary lames we were down 3-1. And in both games he scored the second goal. But what was inspiring, what to me seemed to have started snow ball rolling that eventually sent an Avalanche of goals on the on the other team was the “mean mug” he gave his bench after he scored those goals. (See hat trick goal two against the lames in the Avs-oulutly Avs-mazing vault) I’ve seen that look many times in my life, usually before someone gets their chicklets knocked out. The look that without words says step the f**k up! The results the rest of the team responds with inspired play, faster better played shifts and a we will win attitude. The Firestarter is quickly becoming an unstoppable force out their and his teammates seem to thrive off Stewart when he steps up. To watch the team respond after his goal gave me hope that the Mile High City will soon be back to what we have come to expect of the Avalanche deep playoff runs and cup contention.
On a Mile High Note congrats to Chris Stewart for his 50th career goal and to the newest member of the Cherry Bustin Club rookie defensemen Kevin Shattenkirk who scored his first goal burying it where momma hides the cookies!
GO AVS let the Rangers have it!
