After last Thursday’s 3-1 loss against the Canucks Coach Sacco challenged his team on their work ethic and the ability to bounce back from the loss. I would say the Avs accepted and answered the challenge with a 5-0 shutout in Saturday’s game against the leagues highest scoring Dallas Stars. Not only did the Avs put up five goals, two coming from the fourth line and a shorthanded tally, but they completely shut down Dallas’s top line that came in to the contest as the line with the most points in the league. With the injuries to Anderson, Foote, Cumisky and Wilson only time will tell if the increased effort will continue. And how about them rookies? The play or recent call ups defensemen Kevin Shattenkirk and Colby Cohen both shined in their debut games. Shattenkirk who was drafted for his offensive capabilities on the blue line was the only positive in the contest against the Canucks and showed a steady consistent play against Dallas. Cohen, got his first start against the Stars, and made his presences known with a bone crushing checks, and although held back by refs was quick to drop the mits and get em up against Stephan Robidas. Led by a hot Budaj, look for the Avs to continue to answer the challenge set by Coach Sacco with inspired play tonight against the division rival Flames. GO AVS!
