After a predictably rough game after a five day lay-off, the Colorado Avalanche responded just the way their head coach promised they would in a convincing 5-0 dismantling of the Dallas Stars.
Tonight was a night to remember for the 4th line, as they contributed 3 goals. Matt Duchene also responded well with two assists after being benched after a poor performance against Vancouver.
With five goals in this game, the Avalanche are now #1 in the league in offense, with 3.38 goals a game. Unfortunately, they are also 27th in the league in goals against per game, with 3.23.
That didn’t matter tonight though, because Peter Budaj put in his best game tonight standing in for injured started Craig Anderson. He stopped 31 shots en route to his first shutout of the season. Sadly, the Avs are still behind both Vancouver and Minnesota in the Northwest Division, with 15 points in 13 games played.
Avs next game is Tuesday against division rival Calgary Flames (6-7).
