Wolski Traded to PHX for Mueller, Prospect

by Avalanche

Well, that was unexpected.

Even though I’d heard plenty of rumors about Wojtek Wolski, I never really thought we’d pull the trigger on a deal for one of our core players. I’m still pretty shocked about this trade, and just from initial reaction it looks like the Avs got the raw end of the deal, comparing values.

For the record, The Colorado Avalanche traded Wojtek Wolski to the Phoenix Coyotes for forwards Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter. This season, Wolski has 47 points, whereas Mueller has 17 points, and Porter has only played in four games for the Coyotes this season.

Also, from what I’ve heard about Mueller, he’s like a poor man’s Wolski: has a strong skill set, but is inconsistent more times than not. That’s the bad news.

However, since it’s a done deal, we might as well try to find the silver lining. For instance, though Mueller’s numbers have been way down this season, back in 2008, he had 54 points in his rookie year. That’s about the pace that Matt Duchene is on right now.

Mueller is also only 21 years old. Still plenty of time for him to improve, whereas Wolski is 24.

As for Porter, he may be a bigger project, but let’s not forget he was a former Hobey Baker Trophy winner, so we know he has the ability to dominate.

For those still unsure about what Avs GM Sherman is doing to this team, here’s something that might make you feel at least a little better:
