Avs Slide Continues; Playoffs Uncertain

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Why is it that the Colorado Avalanche always manages to play the way everyone predicted they would at the season when they are leading a game and/or in the last five minutes of a game.
Another blown game.
Another step closer to missing the playoffs, which seemed certain a mere two weeks ago.
There’s no doubt that I, like many of you, are frustrated, and this “woe is me” attitude is a byproduct of being a Denver sports fan recently. It seems you can’t spell “Colorado” without “Collapse” anymore. As most of you know, it started with the Broncos, who started 6-0 only [...]

Darcy Tucker Suspended

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

The NHL announced today that Darcy Tucker has been suspended for one game for “excessive physical contact” on an icing play Monday vs. the LA Kings.
I didn’t see the hit, so I can’t comment on whether or not the suspension is warranted. I will say that I don’t believe it’s too much of a stretch to say that Darcy Tucker has been something of a disappointment this year for us, and his time in Colorado hasn’t lived up to the expectations some had for a grinder who had goal totals of 21, 28, 24 and 18 the years before he [...]

Young Stars Carrying Avs’ Playoff Hopes

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

Three guys I need to mention who have seriously impressed me with their leadership and moxy to turn up the heat when we need it most:
Paul Stastny, Chris Stewart, and Peter Mueller.
Stastny is proving he can be the leader we need and has brought himself back to point-per-game stats.
Stewart has been one of the biggest surprises of the NHL season, and looks to be a marquee power forward moving forward in his career.
Mueller said he wanted to shut the mouths of his critics, and it seems he has done just that. With a goal and an assist in last night’s [...]

Slumping Avs Looking For Win vs. LA

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

A week ago, the Colorado Avalanche were all but guaranteed a spot in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Incredible how perceptions change.
The Avs have lost three games in a row since then, and things are looking any easier for them for the rest of the regular season. Here’s what the Avs schedule looks like:
Kings @ Avs
Avs @ Coyotes
Avs @ Sharks
Ducks @ Avs
Flames @ Avs
Sharks @ Avs
Avs @ Canucks
Avs @ Oilers
Blackhawks @ Avs
Kings @ Avs
Every single team on we play for the rest of the season with the exception of the Edmonton Oilers is either in a playoff position or has a [...]

Anderson Provides MVP Performance in Victory

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Colorado Avalanche needed a win. At this late stage of the season, every point counts. The problem was, the Dallas Stars needed those points even more. They came out more desperate, more determined and more passionate than the young Avalanche team.
They outshot us, out-hit us, and out-chanced us. There was only one thing that kept Dallas from running away with this victory, once thing from putting them back into the playoff picture, and us out of division title contention. That thing was Craig Anderson, a veritable brick wall that has taken residence in the Colorado crease and made it [...]

One More Thing…

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

It seems the Avs had one more trick up their sleeves, and they pulled off one of the more satisfying trades for long-time fans of the Colorado Avalanche.
The Avs traded a 6th round draft pick to Carolina for……wait for it…..Stephane Yelle!
Though he’s not nearly the player he used to be for us, he will be a valuable 4th-liner who can kill penalties and take face-offs. Plus, I mean, come on! It’s Yeller!
Looks like Peter Mueller will be available for tonight’s game vs Anaheim.
And if you’ll all turn your attention towards our schedule….
We’re playing Phoenix TOMORROW NIGHT! If Wolski plays like [...]

Wolski Traded to PHX for Mueller, Prospect

AUTHOR: Jake Bennett | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

Well, that was unexpected.
Even though I’d heard plenty of rumors about Wojtek Wolski, I never really thought we’d pull the trigger on a deal for one of our core players. I’m still pretty shocked about this trade, and just from initial reaction it looks like the Avs got the raw end of the deal, comparing values.
For the record, The Colorado Avalanche traded Wojtek Wolski to the Phoenix Coyotes for forwards Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter. This season, Wolski has 47 points, whereas Mueller has 17 points, and Porter has only played in four games for the Coyotes this season.
Also, from [...]
