Avs Look to Halt Losing Streak Vs. Rangers

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

After suffering from serious lethargic symptoms brought on by the snoozefest that is Minnesota Wild hockey, the Avs had no time to grieve the loss of their winning streak. They got on a plane and flew to Dallas, to face the Stars the next night. Mike Modano felt no sympathy, and got his revenge against the Avs by scoring twice en route to a 3-2 victory for the Stars, sending the Avs on their way with a lightning-quick two game losing streak. Meanwhile, Vancouver continues its winning ways, making a remarkable comeback against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After Luongo got [...]

Final Showdown Tonight Vs. Wild

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

Tonight’s matchup between the Colorado Avalanche and the Minnesota Wild marks their final game against each other during the regular season. The Wild beat the Avs like burgundy-headed stepchildren early on in the season, winning the first four games these two played, before the Avs finally earned their first win against them, a 4-3 victory on December 21st. Both teams come into this game on a relative hot streaks. The Avs and the Wild are 7-3-0 and 6-3-1 in their last ten, respectively. Avs might have the edge early on in this game, since Minnesota played last night against the [...]

Avs Extend Win Streak to Six

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

There’s not really a whole lot to say. This is the most fun I’ve had as a fan of the Colorado Avalanche in a long time. Everyone is on the same page, our big names are making the big plays, our rookies continue to impress, and Craig Anderson is now 7-1 in the new decade, with 1.47 GAA and .954sv%. Oh, and including tonight’s 4-0 win over Dallas, I should also throw in the 2 shutouts. It seems like I keep repeating myself, but really, how great is it to have top-notch goaltending again?! I could keep talking about how [...]

Colorado Avalanche: A Culture of Playoff Performance

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

One of the greatest things about sports is the potential it offers for debate. Men have argued about hockey for many many years, and will continue to do so. Who is the greatest player ever? Who is the greatest goaltender ever? Who was the greatest captain? Who has the most degrading nickname? For most of the questions, it is inevitable that statistics will be brought into the discussion. I’ve noticed a lot of debate going on around hockey circles about where some of the great Colorado Avalanche players fit in the history of the sport. Who was the greatest goaltender [...]

Santa Wolski’s Story

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

Here’s a little story I found while browsing for Avs news. CBC is running a feature on Wojtek Wolski this month about his work with underprivileged children. Truly a heartwarming story, and it’s things like this that puts this whole game in perspective. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2010/01/13/sp-wolski.html By the way, Pittsburgh just beat Calgary, so now the Flames have finally caught up to us with Games Played, so we don’t have to worry about that right now. The interesting thing is, 47 games into this season, the Flames and Avs have identical 26-15-6 records. That’s pretty incredible in itself. Let’s hope the Avs [...]

Peter Forsberg – Greatest Talent Ever?

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

Caught a video made by a Hockey’s Future poster called Daywalker who made it as a tribute to Avs great Peter Forsberg. Without a doubt, one of the most talented players to ever lace up the skates. Makes you wonder what heights he could’ve reached had he not been born with bad ankles. Anyways, enough talk. Just sit back and enjoy .

Avs Rookies Top Sabres in Shootout Thriller

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

That’s probably one of the most exciting games I’ve seen in a long time! Seeing a game like that is exactly why love the shootout and go against all the hockey purists who would rather have seen the game end in a tie. The shootout is kind of like democracy – It’s a pretty bad system, but it’s better than anything else available. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this is the first time in NHL history that two 18-year-olds scored for the same team in the shootout. And for Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly [...]

Duchene Named Rookie of the Month

AUTHOR: | IN: Avalanche | COMMENTS: None Yet

The NHL recognized Matt Duchene’s recent success by  naming him Rookie of the Month of December. Duchene, who has been scoring on a point-per-game pace since adjusting to the NHL game, had 13 points in 14 games in December, leading all rookies. Duchene trails only John Tavares in overall rookie scoring by a single point, 28-27. Coincidentally, the two top rookies will be facing each other for the first time professionally tonight when Tavares’ New York Islanders visit Duchene’s Colorado Avalanche. Another young center receiving an award this month is our own TJ Hensick. Hensick has been named the American [...]
