Here Lies David Jones' Breakout Season in 2009. 10/1/09-11/29/09. RIP
The magic potion has worn off. The Avs are losing like it’s going out of style. They’ve lost five of their last six games, and have given away their lead in the Northwest Division.
But it’s the end of Thanksgiving break. I don’t want to talk about all the negatives. I don’t want to talk about how Colorado gave up a 2-0 lead, or how they were swept in a home-and-home against the (arguably) worst team in the Northwest, the Minnesota Wild (GonePuckWild.com). I don’t want to talk about how Wojtek Wolski has lost his magic touch in the shoot-out. I don’t want to talk about how we lost one of our most potent players for the season last night because of an ACL tear. No, I don’t want to do that.
Let’s have a look at those positives, shall we?
- We finally came out strong in the first period. A two-goal lead after the first is usually reserved for the team playing against the Burgundy and Blue.
- Matt Duchene finally scored a goal at home. On top of that, he almost had his first two-goal game, but one of his goals was disallowed. I’m very impressed that Duchene didn’t just hang his head, wallow in self-pity over his poor luck, and phone it in. His goal was disallowed and he went right back at it, banking a pass from Stastny past Josh Harding, who was tripped up on the play by his own defenseman. After a slow start, Duchene is really starting to pick up some points.
- Craig Anderson made 34 saves and kept the Avs in the game after they stopped playing after the 1st. Only 3 shots in the 2nd period, seriously?? No, wait. Positive…yeah, Anderson. 34 saves. I love that guy.
- At least we got that loser point.
That’s all I got. Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving!
