Tweedle Dee proved he doesn’t need his brother to beat the slumping Colorado Avalanche. Henrik Sedin’s hattrick led the Canucks storming past the Avalanche 8-2, a royal beating on a level we as Avs fans haven’t had to endure since the Detroit Redwings swept us out of the 2007-08 playoffs in Game Four by that same score.

I don’t think that’s what the Avs’ marketing team had in mind with the debut of our 3rd jerseys. If we play like that for the 14 other games we’re set to wear those jerseys, we may end up proving all those early prognosticators right.

Still, this is really no time to panic. We need to write this game off. Fuggedaboudit. Every team loses. Every team will occasionally lose horrendously. And yes, every team will hit a wall and goes through several slumps throughout the arduous 82 game season. What separates the good teams from the “Maple Leafs” of the league is how they respond to these slumps. Last year’s team didn’t handle it too well. We’ll soon find out if we learned anything from that experience.
