Avs Downward Spiral Capped by Loss of Jones
The magic potion has worn off. The Avs are losing like it’s going out of style. They’ve lost five of their last six games, and have given away their lead in the Northwest Division. But it’s the end of Thanksgiving break. I don’t want to talk about all the negatives. I don’t want to talk about how Colorado gave up a 2-0 lead, or how they were swept in a home-and-home against the (arguably) worst team in the Northwest, the Minnesota Wild (GonePuckWild.com). I don’t want to talk about how Wojtek Wolski has lost his magic touch in the shoot-out. [...]
Avs Chase Emery; Beat Flyers 5-4
With 4:39 left in the 3rd period, things were looking bleak for the Colorado Avalanche. The Philadelphia Flyers had just scored on the power play, and while the Avs were still holding on to a 5-4 lead, the situation was looking all too similar. In both of the Avs last two losses, they have been leading by at least 2 goals before faltering in the 3rd period. At the end of the 2nd period in this game, the Avs were ahead 5-2. Craig Anderson decided he’d had enough of the Avs’ charitable ways. He stonewalled the Flyers in the waning [...]
Duchene Turning Up the Heat
I can’t believe the timing. Here I am, typing up an article about how rookie Matt Duchene needs to start pulling his weight. Don’t get me wrong, Duchene is a phenomenal player. To be playing in the best league in the world at 18 is absolutely incredible. But in order for us to have any sort of long-term success this season, we need to see more. We can’t look at Duchene as an 18-year-old, but as the 2nd line center on a first place team. See, I had it all planned out. Matt Duchene is trying to get me to [...]
Canucks Destroy Avs
Tweedle Dee proved he doesn’t need his brother to beat the slumping Colorado Avalanche. Henrik Sedin’s hattrick led the Canucks storming past the Avalanche 8-2, a royal beating on a level we as Avs fans haven’t had to endure since the Detroit Redwings swept us out of the 2007-08 playoffs in Game Four by that same score. I don’t think that’s what the Avs’ marketing team had in mind with the debut of our 3rd jerseys. If we play like that for the 14 other games we’re set to wear those jerseys, we may end up proving all those early [...]
Avs 3rd Jersey Unveiled
Well, it’s official. The rumored photoshop picture of what the Colorado Avalanche’s 3rd jersey was going to look like is accurate. The team unveiled their 3rd jersey today, with Kyle Quincey and Paul Stastny modeling them in their full gear. The Avs will wear the jersey’s 12 times this season, with the first coming in 2 days. NOTES: Milan Hejduk missed another game with a sore back. Hopefully he gets back soon – he may help us get out of this mini slump we’re in . The Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks have met three times so far this [...]
Weak Penalty Kill Leads to First Avs Home Loss
The Avalanche hit a bit of a speed bump against the Edmonton Oilers, losing their first game at home after giving up a procession of power play goals. Anderson had a season high goals against in the 5-3 pummeling. Although they were once again outshot (expected at this point), the Avs had their chances. Paul Stastny had a wide-open net at one point, but his shot was stopped by an Edmonton defender. Despite the score, Anderson was still making some big saves for his team, the team just really needs to work on their penalty kill. It was easily the [...]
Svatos, Budaj Provide Spark in Win Over Coyotes
Despite an uncertain and turbulent offseason, the Phoenix Coyotes have started the 2009-2010 season off strong. The Colorado Avalanche has come out of the gates even stronger. The Avs came out of Wednesday night’s game with a victory to stay undefeated at the Pepsi Center this year and extend their Western Conference lead. The 4-1 score does not reflect how tight the game was, as the Avs were up 1-0 through most of the game. Milan Hejduk provided the early fireworks, launching a shot past Ilya Bryzgalov less than a minute into the game. Marek Svatos must also be reading [...]
Scaaary Weekend For Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche picked the perfect costume for Halloween last weekend. They dressed up as the team everyone thought they’d be this season. They were disorganized, lackadaisical, and frighteningly inept on offense, scoring just one goal while getting beat by a surging San Jose team and a Luongo-less Vancouver squad. The Avs were beaten handily by the Sharks, losing 1-3 while being out-shot 46-25. Matt Duchene scored the lone goal for the Avs, a nice effort on his part, scoring off his own rebound while Colorado was short-handed. The loss prevented the Avalanche from breaking the NHL record for most [...]
